Working out

March 23rd, 2006 at 07:04 pm

Well I have been doing so well at walking I am goiing to actually do the strength stuff this week... I think. After all that was part of the plan in the begining but I failed, so I reevaluated my goals (meaning I lowered my expectations!)

Anyway after 5 weeks I have burned a total of : 03259 calories in only 839 minutes.

But more importantly.....
I lost an inch on each thigh!

So why is this on a finance blog? It is all free! I signed up for the Self.com challenge, no cost, free tracker.

I walk, no cost, free.

I have a gift subscription to Self magazine with free strength workouts.

So why no weight total? I have no scale, never owned one, I lived with one at my mothers oh so long ago, but I do not own one.

So why no new waistline loss? Err not sure, prolly cause I have not been targeting my abs, and I have not changed my eating habits, something I really need to work on.

Congrats on losing an inch on each thigh! I've been trying to lose my hospital weight since I got out of the hospital...uh, which YEAR was that?

I love weight training. Once your muscles stop yelling, you might too Smile

Contrary to popular belief, working out your abs won't burn fat just from there. It will burn fat from all over. It will, however, create more muscle there. I've heard that the fat comes from the last place it was put, but I'm not sure how true that part is.

I think there's about as many myths out there about food and exercise as there is about finance.

I've also heard the same, Jay. You can target muscle growth, but you can't target fat loss.

Congrats on losing the inch on the thighs. Calisthentics next, using a yoga mat and resistance bands. Both are portable and cheap!

I've also learned that you have to vary what you do for exercise because your body gets used to the same movements, will do them more efficiently, so you won't burn off as much energy.

As far as fat being last in, first out. didn't work for me. Every place I discover that I lost is a nice surprise.

Well since the muscle is stretched from 3 kids, I bet working it will show results!

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I can change walking, though I am stuck inside (kids colds) so maybe I will get off my butt and use the VCR.... Maybe Smile
