Fantasy games...

March 14th, 2007 at 07:24 pm

Now to me the key word there is 'fantasy' Ok yeah I like most all games, but when it comes to fantasy games I expect a certain break from reality...

I want to play the girl, not just any girl but I want my figurine/character to be my ideal version of myself, with proportions completly fantastic, armor that is all encompasing even though it consists of a kerchief and a string, and of course amazing powers to defeat the 'biggest baddest bad guy ever'.

What I do not play fantasy games for is to find out that the kerchief and string armor costs more than my car payment so sorry 'po folk' can't use it, that the only character with any skill I can afford is about worthless and might as well stay home (doing nothing but teaching and cleaning I suspect), or that the 'biggest baddest bad guy ever' can only be purchased by those with 6 figure disposable incomes.

I just simply cannot get into a game that requires money - real hard cash as a game piece! I don't even play poker with real money ! (oops I said that name again, sorry Smile.)

Apparently many can, and there is a booming mini game industry (paint your own - with whatever hair color you like) as well as the 'collectable card game' ripoff, where you have to spend a fortune just for the chance of getting the right card! I mean seriously, why not just play the lottery and be done with it?

Now when I play a game I like for all players to start with an equal financial standing, like monopoly where you all get to start with the same 2K, or Munchkin where you all start with a character of roughly the same stats...(you can earn that string armor as you go...) And I'll leave the state of my finances behind for a time, and not ask after yours while we play.

Yeah, it's amazing that tabletop RPG games, which is essentially a game of imagination, can cost so much to play. Big Grin It's a good thing you don't get into massive online computer games... do you?

Hey, that's what B.A. can do, he can invent an online RPG that makes use of his Flash and his doodling and his web-design and all those other thingies he listed and make it Frugal to play and yet still earn a buck or two from it. But by buck or two I literally mean $1 or $2 per person. Then he can go off on side trip articles into living frugally and gardening so you can afford to add your $2 a month purchases to upgrade your characters. And your tokens must be designed on the site, printed out and glued to popsicle sticks or even regular sticks, nothing fancy or costly. Need new string armor, print out a new version of your character wearing the string armor designed on the site. Let's see and Princess Perky gets 10 cents per person for ranting in such a way to give me the idea and I get 10 cents per person, for having the idea, and B.A. gets $1.80 per person. Hey, sounds good to me.

Also, it is entirely possible I need to get more sleep this week than last and that my brain is off on an unannounced side trip...

The cleaning I accept, but the teaching you do takes a great deal of skill, it is a God given talent that no amount of money can buy!!! Cyber or on paper!

My apologies to all who clean better tahn I do (most of you I am sure) while I am sure it requires skill it just isn't my thing so I jumped on her teaching comment!

How am I supposed to make money in a cbyer sweatshop if the upgrades only cost $1 or $2? I can glue token to popsicle sticks all day and still only make a few bucks a month...heh. No joke about those sweat shops, I personally know at least 2 players that have paid real cash to get loot for a game from so-called, 'gold farmers'. They hire out people to play the game all day just collecting items that can be sold for the game currency, which they sell for real cash to peole too lazy or 'busy' to play the game and collect it for themselves. Then you can take the gold, or intergalactic Gorons, or whatever and buy the bestest string armor in the game!
