Folks know we are weird

June 1st, 2009 at 05:40 pm

Saturday was the Cub scout crossover, the fellow in charge of burgers and buns brought traditional white buns for all...and a pack of whole wheat for us!

Unasked, he knew we were the 'health nuts' and he decided to do something about it! I was amazed and greatful!

Then the lady who made some sort of bean/veggie salad (I dunno what to call those) made it a point to tell me she used fresh veggies. I didn't have the heart to tell her I am the worst health food eater and don't eat tomatoes unless cooked and hot. But I really appreciated the attempt!

yesterday was ELs birthday party, we had the usual burgers and dogs, and several new guests were introduced to whole wheat burger and dog buns..I used to buy both, but finally decided to make my life easier, I would stick with what we ate, and have never had an adult guest not eat them. I think most folk would be surprised to learn how good whole wheat is.

I also had lots of fruit, which always disapears, and whole wheat ritz..though I doubt they are any healthier than regular, I find I like the taste of them better. Again all was eaten. Maybe if more folk bought, shared, and displayed healthy foods, those white, sugar starch foods would lose some appeal. For now folk think junk food and good times go together, yet at my house, so far as all the comments I am hearing go, good times were had without the junk, or rather without as much. Burgers are after all junk...but no chips, and whole wheat all around.

Or not we did have oreos as a cake Smile. (husband doesn't like cake, so we stuck candles in the oreos for him)

Do you accommodate the vegans at your celebration with a non-burger/hot dog option?

    Somehow I am unimpressed ...

Heh, are you the person who listed every big purchase you have made in the last two years that ticked me off? because I apparently have ticked you off, so I wondered if it was personal.

Anyway, yes we do actually accommodate the vegans that came. They have to help with what exactly they need, but we do try. (this time we cooked their burgers on the stove..apparently they don't grill well.)

    haha.
I would just take it as: they have a whole lot of time on their hands. I mean, what else could you put it down to? If they don't post again, it means they've realised they're being slightly immature. If they do, it means that they are approximately 12 years old and haven't yet learnt to deal with differing opinions and views.

Smile Good on you, on the whole wheat buns though! I bravely made my first vegetarian risotto with no meat options for dinner for some friends on the weekend, no one commented on the lack of meat! Whew!

PP - well, my mom thinks I'm crazy. . . I guess we're all good company. (And we eat whole wheat everything too.)

gamecock. . .LOL! Come to think of it, I think we have some chips in our cabinet. . .

You mean not everyone eats whole wheat everything? Weird. We haven't had any type of white bread in my house in over 5 years... Guess I forget that not everyone has converted over. I think the most people comment on our diet is that I occasionally get asked if I am a vegetarian even though I am not even close (love steak but don't see why people eat meat every day let alone every meal).

My family has eaten whole wheat in place of white for a couple years. My mom had to switch to wheat because of health reasons and since she was the primary grocery shopper we went along with it. Now I buy whole wheat everything (including pasta!) when I go grocery shopping. It's a habit.

Last week I made risotto with veggies for a couple friends, my boyfriend, and myself. One of my friends is a vegetarian and I accidently used chicken broth in it instead of vegetable broth. It totally slipped my mind until after I made it. Fortunately she was OK with it.
