Clutter lost a bill

September 28th, 2010 at 06:01 pm

I just got the phone bill. A two month phone bill, and a 'last notice at that. Apparently I lost the last two bills on my desk. I am really glad I finally did something about this desk. There is more to do, but at least I got the bills paid.

Clutter always costs me, in energy, time, and money.

The bad news is I have been spending the week doing a fancy balletic type dance around the obstacle course of rearranged misplaced piles of stuff. Slowly shrinking piles, bu still it hasn't been fun.

It is times like this that make me want to throw up my hands and demand a larger house. 3 bedroom 1100 sq ft house for 7 of us is really hard.

But plenty have it worse.

I have a pocket folder that I got a back to school time. It's basically a plastic "pee chee" type folder with several pages of pockets and tabs for each page.

I file rceipts in the first page, bills in the second, bills/statements that need to be reconciled in the third, and my checkbook, stamps and return address labels in the fourth pocket.

When I get bills/statements I open them immediately, file it in my folder and toss the rest.

Maybe something like that would work for you. Good luck with taming the clutter!

Ugh. I'm right there with you. I found a couple of late bills on my desk under a pile of kids clothes and diapers! Just a commentary on the sad state of organization once you have kids.

my bank lets me say when they should pay what and how much so I can pay it as soon as it comes in but they won't send it until the proper day.
In addition while my desk is a mess (worse than yours I'm sure) only one pile has bills and kids never are allowed to touch that pile (of course my kids are older so that helps with that rule)

Paperwork is my nemesis. I tend to throw it in a box and let it sit. That practice always bites me because when I have to find something I have to go through the whole box. I want to change that, but I hate paperwork so much!
