Brrrrrr

January 22nd, 2007 at 02:14 am

I know compared to the northern portion of the country it is snuggly warm, but we have thin blood!

I lived in cold frugal houses most of my life so I am used to it (though don't you worry I complained a plenty then!)

My poor husband on the other hand grew up with climate control being tops on the 'spend here first'category, when you were cold you turned the heat up...he hates temperatures below 70 indoor.

But cold weather brings up an irritation of mine...wear a coat people!!!! Yeah you rubbing your arms, stamping your feet, and muttering about the cold....this is what coats are made for!

And please tell me, what would you do if your car broke down and you plus your small child were stuck waiting for help? Do they have to suffer because you assumed you would get right into a car, then straight to the store?

My daughter gets carsick and is in general required to remove her coat as soon as she gets in the car, and yet I still require her to wear one, it is a lap cover when she first gets in, it is warm and snuggly from house to car to church. And should the unthinkable occure, she will be relativly warm.

Oh and as to whether it will help you stay healthy, no a coat is not a barrier to cold germs, it is however useful to keep you warm..leaving your body free to fight any germs, instead of ignoring them as your body desperatly tries to keep you from freezing to death!

Oh, this sounds like us! I keep turning the thermostat down (put on a sweater!) and he turns it up. He keeps putting it on 72 or so and it makes me cringe. Not just because of the cost but then the house is hot! We have this battle every winter and he usually wins...

denisentexas I'd say strip down and go nekkid when he turns it up hot like that, but I think that would only get it turned up more often! Smile
PrincessPerky, I tell my son the same thing...we could be in an accident where you sit for DAYS waiting for help to come...TAKE THE COAT with you even if you don't want to wear it!!

Seems the phrase "A good girl scout is ALWAYS prepared"...keeps floating thru my memory.

LOL - I have the opposite problem. I actually see people get out of their cars and put on a coat to walk to the front door - LOL. I don't know how many people are always asking if my son needs a coat. Um, it is 60 degrees out and we walked 10 feet from the car to the front door - no he doesn't need a coat!!!! LOL. Every morning at his preschool people coating their kids to walk 10 feet, go inside and take it off. People here are crazy. I have had 2 or 3 people say to me my son needs a coat. ??? BElieve me I am very sensitive to cold - if we needed coats we'd have coats. Since the weather has been 30 degrees he has been wearing a coat and a hat - his request. HE just wears it in the car since it's a little chillier.

I agree though - if you are freezing your butt off get a coat - geez.
