Tithing

January 8th, 2006 at 01:01 pm

I would like to tithe, but DH hates organized religion, and that is where the money would go. Plus we have about 200 a month to fail or send to the CC, I really need to send it to the CC, but God does say to 'fill his house' and all that. This is something I have been struggling with for most of our marriage, and especially now that we have kids. What am I saying when I don't give money to church, that our 'stuff' is more important than God?

Would your husband feel differently if you were to send that amount to a charitable organization? Or perhaps send it to a "worthy student" fund?

I personally haven't given my tithe monies to my church in about a year. What I have done with them is I helped out one of my best friend and her family with something that helped alleviate the many sicknesses they were getting from allergies, and I have also been helping them out with their son's tuition. My best friend is a teacher in the church school I used to also teach at. So I feel like I am directly giving to one of God's workers without giving money to the church beauracaracy.

How about compromising and donate your 10% to a charity instead.
