Sick or allergies?

May 9th, 2006 at 12:31 pm

I have been feeling like I was wearing a corset on my lungs for a week or two, and now I have a horrid hack to go with it.

We took UE to the Doc for the hack, and got albuteral for him, Doc said he was allergic to this spring, prolly not for life, but definatly this year.

So If I just have allergies, I can tough it out, but if I am sick, I am putting my kids at risk of getting it by not getting meds...

I hate that delema.

I don't want DH to have to take a day off work for me to see a doc to hear 'yep allergic to spring'...but I also am having a bit of trouble walking and such when I can't breath right...

If the cough has persisted for more than a week without getting better...or if you are running a fever....or anything coming out is green....I usually opt to see the doctor.

Good luck to you....it is so much harder to care for the little guys when mom is sick. Frown

My DD1 was having a hard time. I figured it was allergies because she also had the itchy red eyes. You usually do'nt get that with a cold so much. I hated to do it, but I turned on the air conditioning (I had been running the attic fan, its still very cool out here) and she is way better! I hate to run the A/C, especially since it is cooler outside than inside, but I guess it's the filter in unit that helps.

When the lungs are involved like that and you can't breathe right when walking around there is a chance you have walking pneumonia. If you get light-headed, dizzy, and start having night sweats, that is usually pneumonia. You can get it from sitting in front of the A.C. too long or even from a cold that starts out viral and turns to bacterial. I'd get it checked, but then I'm prone to pneumonia if I'm not careful. Allergies usually hit more in the bronchial and sinus areas or on the skin.

This is not the time to be a hero or a martyr. You have to take care of yourself. On a plane, attendants tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before you help others. Its not selfish, its strategy.
