Know anything about hives?

October 2nd, 2006 at 10:49 pm

My kid had a ton on his upper leg when he got undressed for a shower (odd day it was like 2:30...)

then after the shower I put some baking soda and they faded a bit (I didn't know what they were at the time) then after dinner they were worse, and now a couple hours and some baking soda later they are even worse,All up and down both legs, the kid is definatly uncomfortable, though he says they don't itch, he is 'squirming' My son is a bouncer not a squirmer.

I put him in the tub with some baking soda, I don't know if the water will help or not, but I am hoping.....I also sent poor DH for some benadryl.

If they don't itch, its possible it's from the inside of the skin which probably can be from some food alergies? I am unaware of other forms of non itch hives. I am sorry to hear your son going through that.

Yuck! Is there a Health Line you can call? Here we have Telehealth where you call and get an RN.

I hope he feels better soon.

When I was a kid icecream always made me feel better. Why not try some of that? (I still feel better when I eat it).

Well best guess on food (reviewing what he ate) is apple yogurt, he tried it for the first time last night.

And now they are on his arms, we gave him the benadryl, bout half an hour a ago...still growing......

I don't have icecream or else I would eat some myself Smile

I was going to suggest some apple cider vinegar on a cloth placed over the hive area - but if apples is causing it...then...uh...no!

read on down the page as it gives several different options, some of which you may already have in the house. Good luck!

My husband had hives in college. I asked him but he couldn't remember what they had him do. Could your son have had an allergic reaction to a new soap or something? My daughter would get rashes all over her legs from the wrong laundry detergent.

I break out in hives if totally stressed...... Fortunatly, haven't had hives....or stress since my divorce a few decades ago! Smile Got rid of the stress!

I used a topical Benedryl, in addition to the capsules....and frequent showers. Just the water felt wonderful. Cotton clothing felt better than anything else, and the looser the better.

Oatmeal baths sometimes helped, as did Calomine lotion on the affected areas.

And, I also vote for the ice cream. For both of you!

I had a silmiar reaction as well. If you read my blog I am having problems with rashes and hives.

The hives were red and small and in a group.

I used some hydro cortizone cream and it helped. You can get it over the counter at the drug store.

I hope your little guy feels better.
