This is a volunteer position folks

August 27th, 2008 at 07:05 pm

Last night was the first Daisy meeting of the year and we had a short parent meeting to go through.

I was NOT please with the amount of time it took, nor with some of the complaints.

Now I know I am not perfect, and I don't do everything right, and certainl not able to make all folk happy at all times, but I am volunteering my time to not only help my daughter as a Daisy, but to also help others.

So with all that in mind could you please stop pestering me when I do it different? Yes we will go to camp, no you don't have to. Yes we will meet every week, no you don't have to! YES we will have dues from the girls for the girls, no ou don't have too.

Look you don't even have to be here! Girl scouts is a decent program with wonderful goals designed to help girls with leadership and life skills, how exactly do you expect me to teach them if you don't want me to be anything more than an every other week drop off?

Good grief, I am so sorry I took on this role.

Sorry to hear that they're giving you a hard time about it. You'd think they would be a little more understanding.

See if you can enlist the help of others. When one of my daughters was a Daisy, she had a leader who did everything the first year. Then the leader got an outside-of-the-home job as a realtor and we ALL had to (1) run a meeting, and (2) fulfill a function. I did scrapbooking which wasn't a big deal, but I was delegated to be Treasurer which I wasn't happy about because I was an 18 month old and was 8 months pregnant. Good luck! I think you should be able to round up a few like-minded Moms!

Truth is the aren't all mad at me, seems to be 5 girls that I recruited quite happy with things and willing ot help out, and 5 'old' moms who want me to turn into the old leader who thought like them.

Oh well, I will do it my way, and if they leave I am getting a list of alternate troops in the area.

Be thankful the parents show up for parent meetings. Last year when we were taking the brownies and juniors to Myrtle Beach for 3 days we had to pratically force the parents to come to the meeting about the trip. I finally called all the parents and said if one of us did not see them in person to go over the procedures for the trip and have the paperwork filled out their child will not be allowed to attend the trip. That finally got the parents to give us 5 minutes of their time. It's sad that many parents think of Girl Scouts as free babysitting for a few hours a month. I just keep reminding myself that we are helping to mold the girls into good citizens and proud women. Good luck with your troop and just keep reminding yourself you are there for the girls not their mothers.
