The Girl Scouts are gearing up for World Thinking Day by studying up on Pakistan.

So far we built a model home, colored pictures of the prime ministers house, learned a bit about the culture and dress.

Next week we will be making a head scarf and decorating it with jewels.

I printed a few details about Girl Guides there, and am printing a

map and 'hello' in Urdu.

The other half of my morning is googling and printing info for my Cub scout. He is earning his 'citizenship belt loop'. So he has to make a poster about what makes a good citizen. He asked for the pledge, a flag, and a recycle symbol. I insisted he have something about voting as well.

You can do anything with google and a printer Smile

Ummm, we have been assigned Antigua (an island in the Caribbean??)
    *sigh*
I am not a leader anymore (did that for 3 years) and am going to let someone else get creative with it all

(last year we were Italy and sang the song That's Amore, with chef hats and felt pizzas)

Assigned? yuck, we got to pick, one of our girls is from Pakistan so it seemed a good fit (though we are a bit young)

I like the song and pizza Smile

yep, our service unit hands out little slips to the leaders

love it when the dress reflects the country, and it's fun to do it all on a shoestring, including swaps

I am a leader and we are doing Pakistan also. We just took a trip to the Islamic Cultural Center to meet with a doctor from Pakistan for a question and answer session. We are going to be meeting at my house for an afternoon of cooking and crafts. How are you going to do the jewels on the headscarf? I am still trying to figure out a swap. Any ideas?

We found a strong fabric glue, kids choose where I glued. After about 5 minutes you have to move it from the table or it will stick to the table! but it dried fast enough it didn't stick to the carpet after that.

For the swap we did the old beads on a pin, not perfect, but best we could come up with (Pakistan likes beads..)

We are doing the old beads on a pin too. This old leader was to tired to find something creative. Later this afternoon, we will be doing the cooking and will be decorating mock kites for the punjab spring festival. I also have Punjabi dance cd's and we will put those on while we cook.
