What's in a name? (not really money related)

February 28th, 2007 at 06:34 pm

So in effort to be semi respectable tonight (lenten thing at church) I decided holes in the jeans would be bad and hunted up something nicer. You may recall my recent medical issue, it came with a two size expansion (sorry not a size 8 anymore Frown)

Well I am back in 10s, not great, and more irritating since I do not have a little one to hold...

But all my jeans that I know fit now, have holes, so I headed to the closet to see just how close to an 8 or 9 I am, grabbed one pair of size 9s and tried them on.

I couldn't even get it up to my hips much less over them! Talk about depressing moments! I checked, all other jeans even close to 9 have holes.....so I grabbed a pair a bit smaller..and a bit stretchier....

A size 6 and they fit! Good grief they have changed sizes dramaticaly! So I checked my size 31/34 jeans (you can't change that, 31 inch waist means 31 inch waist...no getting around that)...one fits, one doesn't (different cut, big hips).

I decided to dich the 9s..every time I have a kid (or lose one) I go thru the down phase of weight, and every time I come to the size 9s and I try them, and every time I get depressed because they don't fit....seems to me I am storing them for nothing but trouble!

The number (9) doesn't really bother me much, it is the fact that I haven't worn them since highschool (pre kid), and all outside reports (plus the tape measure) say I am thinner now.....shrunk in storage or something? I dunno, but out they go.

The body likes to redistribute your weight to different areas with each pregnancy. Not to mention all the things that just having pregnancy weight can do. You can be thinner in some places and thicker in others, but weigh the same. Hormones are weird.

That's funny, I just found a size 10 suit jacket that fits quite well - haven't worn since before kids - so weird. The rest are more like 12-16.

But yes - my first pregnancy just made my butt bigger - LOL - and this last time I have started gaining belly weight and my butt is shrinking. I actually don't mind so much because it is easier to shop for clothes - more in proportion I guess. My upper half has grown considerably, just wider all around, but not when it comes to this particular jacket. No rhyme or reason...

Why on earth clothing manufacturers can't just lable things based on actual measurments is beyong me...I like the ease and simplicity of 31/34...maybe adding a hip size might help.......

and dresses..couldn't you tell me how long the bloody skirt is instead of making me guess what 'mid thigh' is on me...at 6ft midthigh may or may not be kneelength......or it may really be mid thigh.....you just can't tell unless they offer a measurment and I can get a ruler myself.

Chances are for you at your height, midthigh would never be knee length! I have a similiar problem. As to the size thing. When you were prekid, a 9 translates to about a 4 today so don't sweat it!! Oh an dbig hips mean for "easier" deliveries. Always thought that term was coined by a guy. Perhaps they should say possible or excruciating instead of easier.

I think manufacturers think that if we poor women see a size like 32 or 42 we'll run screaming from the sales rack. I've always thought women's sizing was stupid. The only thing we can buy with measurements are wedding gowns and bras, the latter of which must have been sized by a woman because men get confused thinking the bigger the ribcage number the bigger the bust and can't figure out the difference between that and cup size. Ah, that's it, men size women's clothes because they don't know any better what's what.
