Issue 2

July 28th, 2006 at 11:09 pm

I decided that I wanted to have an issue out Friday night, DH needs the computer Saturday and it was tough fighting him for it last week. (I wanted to take a copy to show some friends at church) so this week here it is already.

I was able to put more work into it (less work debating on weather I wanted to do it or not!) and i managed to get my printer to print black and white copy! I may have to change the whole thing to black and white, but for now I like color. It isn't like I am paying for it Smile color or black and white it is free to put it on a pdf!

front page for you

unfortunatly turning a pdf into a jpg is beyond me, so I did screen shots and my editing skills are lacking, so that takes almost as loing as making the origional work!

And I can't get the pdf to upload, so if you want a full copy email me at something.educational@gmail.com

I created it just for this, cause I figure a blog is a unsafe place to put an email! dunno how else to offer it to you though....

Actually its more like 300 no spend days

July 28th, 2006 at 01:58 pm

I lost my debit card last year..so I really don't spend any money (lost in the house, in my husbands file cabnet, no risk of theft, plus it has had a renewal sent since then, never activated, hiding around here somewhere..)

Anyway, since I have no debit card I don't ever spend money Smile it is all DH..heh.

But since he and I think of all the money as our money (except for what he earns in his game, that is all his) I really only made it one day..and that is weird, normally we only spend on Monday and occassionally Saturday, but the same week you all are on a no spend for a week challenge, we are on a spending spree (all food, food on sunday, food on monday, more food on Wednesday!) sheesh

Instant response

July 27th, 2006 at 06:04 pm

I jsut checked my email on the way off the computer and already I have a 'we receved your note email'

It says they 'normally respond in 24 hours' except for holidays.

it aslo offers a number in case of a medical emergency. Dunno about you but emialing the company isn't the first thoght I woiuld have in a medical emergency!

Skintimate email

July 27th, 2006 at 05:54 pm

Ok I did it, I have thought about it many times, but I am a major procrastinator, and my excuse is I have lots on my plate!

But Jeffrey sent his note on deoderant, and the 39$ expirament guy did 39 things, and Flash seems to get responses (among other posters)

So I did it. I have a bottle, (can?) of skintimate 'glistening pear' shave gel. and it stinks like old cheap playdough! So I went to the website and did the contact me section. It was quick easy and relativly painless. If something happens Ill let you know.

My wonderful husband

July 27th, 2006 at 02:29 pm

HE really is wonderful, I may not agree with everything he does, but he is wonderful. and so willing to do little things just ot make me happy.

like flowers, he often brings flowers home from the store...unfortunatly we recently found out they make me sick..but he may still bring them only to leave them outside for me to see, I love flowers, I just have a brown thumb, turns out that might be a good thing if I am allergic to tehm! heh, never thought of that...

Anyway back to my wonderful husband. He is a 'food seperatist' he likes his food white for grains, brown for beef (and not all that brown, red in the middle please) I did grow up that way, but I know whole grain is healthier (and has more variety of color) so I keep trying to get more brown in the grain group.

So far we have switched to brown rice, completly..it is almost hard to go out to an oriantal restaurant cause the rice tastes so..well glue like!

We have also switched to whole wheat bread, and english muffins...and again going out for a cheap burger is sortof mutted in fun cause of the pasty bun that almost tastes like paper..sugary paper.....

Now we still have traditional pasta most of the time, and I keep looking into whole wheat. Well last night DH made an emergency run (not sactioned by me) and brought home whole wheat egg noodles Smile I love em, better than any flower Smile. I got a huge smile on this morning when I found the noodles!

my Dad has lymphoma...

July 26th, 2006 at 08:54 pm

Thats about all I can say..
I just found out
he just found out
I didn't even really know what it was till he told me
and now my Dad in CA has lymphoma...I am in NC...with three small kids...I can't go see him..

and he has lymphoma..................

I am prolly spelling that wrong.

too unconventional for surveys :(

July 26th, 2006 at 02:07 pm

I have a membership or whatever they call it to pinecone, but I am too odd to qualify!

No formula
No beer, or wine
No coffee or pop
No anything interesting!

The only one I qualified for was salad dressing......and honestly I don't eat it, DH does!

So every week or so I get a 'just checking' survey and 5 minutes of no nope nada, then nothing...and so far as I can tell you don't get paid for ''just checking' Frown.

Have your cake and eat it too.

July 25th, 2006 at 04:51 pm

appologies, I am cranky, ranting and rude, skip if you are in the least sensitive.

______________________________________
I get cranky when people who make double triple or even more than I, say things like 'I wish I could afford to stay home' or "I just can't afford whole wheat bread', or "I can't pay my bills"

Really who ever said it was easy? who said you get to live life in the fast lane with everything and no consequenses?

Of course I pay the price to stay home, I pay a price for 'real bread' and for paying all those pesky bills on time (though honestly I havn't as many as most)

Pay the piper, you followed him, pay him....or drown....

Ohhh I wish my printer worked!

July 24th, 2006 at 03:30 pm

Kimmie gave us

Text is this link and Link is http://progressivephonics.com/download_p2.htm
this link and I think JC would love them..I do not teach sight reading as a rule, but she would rather be a sight reader..so finding books that are mainly phonetic but have lots of simple repeating words can get tricky.

First issue! hot off the presses..err well disk space anyway

July 24th, 2006 at 02:05 pm

I decided not to let myself perfect the first issue. I just sort of wanted it done so I could share it..but then I discovered my printer wasn't going to print anything..

Oh well, I threw it on a pdf and am trying to put it here so you all can see it if you want. I figure I will put the next ideas into another issue (hopefully a more refined one) but at least I get to say I did one.

Don't expect too much... I enjoyed putting it together, but I am by no means a proffessional!

You can

click here to download the pdf and print it yourself if you like (I will work on printing to mail later)

or I tried to make em pictures for here...we shall see how well that goes.

back page or page 4

I have lots of other things I want to do for a different issue..hopefully a but less last minute..

Rockets

July 23rd, 2006 at 03:41 am

After the library today we went to shoot rockets with my nephew for his birthday.

We managed to get 4 launches off before we ran out of ignitors...I hope to get some more and go back next weekend, pretty cheap entertainment.

All we need is the rockets we have (Nephews was $20 for 2, plus launch pad and engines) but we alredy have ours. plus a big empty field. And that is the one use I have for public schools...they often come with nice big out of the way fields...course barring that I would have used a couple church fields..or a park. but the school is right next to my BILs house.

Free from the library

July 22nd, 2006 at 10:39 pm

That thing I won from the library was a book, looks interesting, but I might save it for a gift.... also came with a cube that will prolly be a gift.

Today the kids handed in their completed reading charts. (25 hours of reading) GMC got a cool blinky pin, and a bendy dog. JC got a magnet and a dog 'crown'.

And coolest of all they got to write on the windows with really neat markers! Ok so I am a bit out of it, I never saw window markers before! (and good thing I didn't see them at the store after or I might have picked up a pack!)

Of course the books we borrowed (a stack bigger than JC!) was free too.

pricing printing

July 21st, 2006 at 12:36 pm

Anywhere from 4$ a copy to .50 a copy....I could do the 50 cents, except that is for a bazzillion copies.....no way I can afford that...

And I remember why I stopped printing my family paper and went to the web only...my printer always screwed up and printed half a page, or the wrong back to a front.

I thnk I will look again for cheaper printing...but even if I find it, I still have to pay 40cents for postage...

And so far like I said only family and friends (and bean Smile.) wants one...I just don't think it is in the bank right now.....

I hate the word free

July 20th, 2006 at 02:26 pm

Text is vistaprint free? and Link is http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/free.aspx?U2=HIyGRxHPzxbgs5xAASaN&GP=7%2F20%2F2006+7%3A40%3A14+AM
vistaprint free?

I got a email saying vistaprint was having a clearance, leaving things free...and the link says free...but they all do...

I can't find the small print that says it isn't really free, but I soo do not want to fill out all the information, get it all set up and customized only to find it really isn't free.

I hate the word free.....

Magazine...

July 20th, 2006 at 01:56 pm

I dunno, the kids and I are having tons of fun doing little things for it...but....All the stuff we have done is not work..it is play..to actually compile and print it would be work (for me, they are too young to use the comuter mostly)...and I am hesitant to work on it...it seems like a waste...the kids wont be getting too much more out of printing than they did out of dictating stuff and making a game. and all...I mean made is made....I guess GMC would love to see the game printed...but I dunno...it just seems like a waste of ink..the 4 of us are prolly the only ones intersted...oh and grandmas and stuff...but really they can look at the rough draft and go 'oooh awww' just as easily.....

Did I mention my husband isn't too keen on it either? prolly due to printing and costs and such, but I dunno it is hard to tell, in many way she is the most wonderful man in the world, but not when it comes to figuring out why he is not 100% for something....

About that magazine

July 19th, 2006 at 04:03 pm

I have lots of ideas, articles written, games and such...I need to put it all together but..

It needs a name..
I was debating on 'Something Educational' But I don't really want people thinking it is all education stuff (though I can't think of much I do that isn't educational.....

I also was debating on printing...my printer is half out of ink.... and I don't really want to spend money..but then I also don't really want it to be web only, I want something you can sit down with your kid in your lap and read....

I need this!

July 19th, 2006 at 02:53 pm

Reading our saving advisor I came across this article for a

Text is summer game and Link is http://www.savemoneygames.com/outside-saving-game.html
summer game And I sooo need this! I am soo tired of doing all the work to leave the house...and with three small children that is a lot of work. Only trouble while GMC may know wht a king is he can't do much of the getting ready other than dressing himself Frown. Oh well maybe when he is older I willg et help.

I am full!

July 18th, 2006 at 11:02 pm

For the first time in over a year I am actually full! This is not about having food, we have plenty, this is about me feeling full...I havn't since befoer I was pegnant with UE! (he is 9 months old).

After ahving been hungry for the last 18 months It feels oddly wonderful to be 'stuffed'.

On a side note I actually mowed the lawn today...well the front anywy. I briefly thought about gettign push mower to save on gas, but after reading in the forums how you have to mow moe often, I am totally never getting one! This was the first time in a month some parts of the lawn were mowed! And you can tell from the length.

groceries

July 18th, 2006 at 03:03 pm

We made it just over budget!
gas and groceries was 102! (and 31 was gas)

Course iut was supposed to be under budget to compensate for last week.....oh well, there is alwasy next week (and all I have left is a 50 dollar bill..so it has to be only 50!)

Sewing saga

July 17th, 2006 at 03:41 pm

So I still havn't gotten rid of my machine, and I thought I aught to be able to handle a simple thing like patching jeans. GMC has two pair with two holes each.

After 20 minutes countless starts and stops, I wouldn't even finish the other side! I give up! I have a friend who patched her kids jeans and didn't seem to mind, so I am asking her to do them.

I want to pay her but my husband doesn't want to spend the money (he didn't mind the 20 minute struggle)

waffles and yeast

July 16th, 2006 at 07:58 pm

I made waffles, they were delicious, I used the last of my eggs for them, so to bake for church I had to find eggless (I know, I know, go get soy flour!)

The recipie I found was for thin cookies, with just sugar, butter, flour, and milk (vanilla, and cinnamon too) - they were AWESOME! except I couldn't cook them all right. You had to start with a cold cookie sheet and well after cooking once they were no longer cold.... So I think I will be making htem again, but freezing two thirds of the batch..so I oinly do one oven full each time..that is still quite a few cookies and they are very good. My husband even went in and found them (no one put them out) so we could take them home..and he was eating them all afternoon ....they are all gone now!

Now the yeast trouble yes it lives from the freezer, but not very well, nothing is riasing too much..a little, but not a lot.. I am not sure if I need to redo it form a dry pack, or if there is some way to 'encourage' yeast to grow.

You do turn the heat on in winter right?

July 15th, 2006 at 06:39 pm

That was the fearful question my neighbor asked yesterday.

Honestly, with a look of 'oh no I might not be able to take a cold house'! she asks if we turn the heat on!

I said yes, we turn it on..at 65 all winter.. I never let the house get colder than 65 Smile less it does in the middle of the night late fall and I don't notice it.. I figure what I don't know wont hurt me.

Right now the house is 'cooled' to a nice breezy 80 degrees, and we have a fan on, and I am wearing a sleeveless camisole.... which is a fancy word for barely there shirt, and jeans. I am not sweating, and in fact am quite comfortable, ok I admit it I am a bit chilly, thinking of putting a top shirt on....

I might be weird, but I think it is more that I am used to it, been living in a pretty hot house for most of my life, PA might not be as hot as NC, but there was never air conditioning when I was a kid. A couple years when first married with A/C didn't ruin me, I can take it. My poor husbnand on the other hand...

I think he could get used to it if he was here all day, but he spends his days in a server room, with computers, and no one lets those babys get to hot!

The kids btw are fine, nothing more than the occassional sweat when they wonder into their owwn rooms with no fan on.

I won something!

July 15th, 2006 at 03:05 pm

I never win anthing, course I also don't enter!

I joined the local library book club..not sure why, maybe cause my 2 kids and neighbor did?

registering apparently enters you to win..not sure what reading all 5 book they recomend does, but I have recorded 4 of the 5. (of course I read more, but most were chilrens books!)

Anyway I actually won something, I dunno what though...I got an email about it today asking for my address...

Freebie and my Phone

July 15th, 2006 at 02:42 pm

My phone isn't free...so I hate getting calls from non important people...like the people who get my number from afreebie form...

I hate that..one big drawback of filling out freebie forms.

budget!

July 15th, 2006 at 02:37 pm

i ahve a budget..ok so I had one awhile ago, but I did it again, and it is written in the calendar, where I will be able to find it later!

I wrote out the house, the car, the utilites, mini savings, and a yearly WAG/12 (yearly is car stuff, HOA, and termite)

And what is left is what we have for groceries, gas, splurging, and gifts, about 447 each month...not a lot, but any overtime = a splurge, course I should be strickter about the groceries...but I am not..yet.

I did look at it and was actually happy, we can afford to live here! we are not living paycheck to paycheck.

I would like to save more, and I would like to have a bigger EF (right now is 1000, in checking and about double that in ING) but at least there is one, and it is growing (slowly)

My dream money solver right now is about 500 more amonth, cause figuring numbers with 500 into savings is much more fun. Goals are achieved in months rather than years (ok like 25 months, but 25 months is way better than 25 years!)

dream job

July 14th, 2006 at 01:21 pm

(besides being a mom that is)

Editor of a homeschool magazine, preferably one devoted to bragging about the kids Smile. Not just my kids, but lots of homeschooled kids. Any kid.

Full of ideas about fun things to do, interesting facts, different lnks to fun or interesting websites. And photos of genious kids of course Smile.

Preferably a magazine with two sections, one by kids (as much as possible) and one by parents.

So why don't I start one? Fear. I am afraid I would be all alone in my desire. so no one would read it and no one would help write it..

Banning all flowers!

July 14th, 2006 at 12:32 am

While putting some dishes away, Hubby looks up and says 'flowers!'. He was looking directly at some beutiful yellow flowers that my wonderful JC had brought in for me. Absolutly dripping with pollen!

We took them outside, and my wonderful husband spent 30 mintues transplanting them into a nifty spot right where I can see them form my bed! it was adorably cute, and left me feeling like some sort of invalid!

But I spent the 30 mijutes in our room with our filter fan, slowly but surly starting to breath easier... till they came back in! I made them all strip and get into PJs, I considered making them get showers, but thought they were prolly all rather hungry and let them eat.

I came out of the room 15 minutes later to join them and found instantly I had trouble breathing... I only half believed the Dr that I had allergies.. untill tonight! I believe it now.

All you get is 24

July 13th, 2006 at 02:32 pm

And unlike Jack bower you have to sleep for some of them!

There are so many things I want to do in a day, and well only 24 hours! I have to decide just what I want to spend my time on..like a budget. There is only so much money, and billions of things to do with it..we have to decide just what we want to do.

Time wise, I want to work out....clean up..play with kids..and be alone..and play with DH..plus some paperwork, cooking, sleeping, discipline ...reading ...learning ....ok I think my 24 is used up now..

I just typed the list quick off the top of my head..and I realized....Poor dh he is after alone time! And silly me (or not so silly) working out is before kids..so is cleaning...hmm

On a side note..it hurts to breath again..maybe I should take my medicine.... I so do not want to be dependant on medicine for the rest of my life...

uncle sam knows best

July 12th, 2006 at 04:32 pm

Apparently it is legal to run up rediculous credit card bills and to take out 'pay day loans' (at terms the mafia would cringe to enforce!)

but they are trying to make it
