Cool point from SA blog

[i]Decide what your time is worth: Take some time to calculate how much you your time is worth. Whatever you decide your hourly rate is worth, that is how much you must pay to watch each hour of TV over your allotted weekly free hours with the money going toward your savings.

This can be an excellent financial lesson for kids to determine their hourly worth as friends of mine with kids who adopted this strategy found out. If the kids set their worth too low in an attempt to watch TV on the cheap, you can hire them to do projects around the house for that same. low rate. On the other hand, if they demand too much money to do jobs that you want them to do, they won’t be able to afford to watch any additional TV over their allotted hours.]

Remind me when the kids are older to try that...prolly have to try it with computer time, not TV though.

Course the question is..I don't have cable, I don't watch 5 hours a week much less a day..so why don't I have a ton of money?...cause I am online instead Smile

I also think this SA blog made a great point. Instead of just turning on the TV to veg out when I am tired, I am going to make a point to only watch "my" shows. That is, shows that I plan to watch in advance, not just whatever happens to be on. I can find myself flipping channels an hour after I sit down, saying, nothing is on, and realizing I just wasted an hour. If I really am tired, I should have taken an hour nap!

I also liked this article a lot. I'm going to look at my veg time and see if there isn't something equally relaxing I can do besides watch TV that also stimulates my brain a little more. Even the most inane-seeming puzzles and games can keep your brain sharp, increasing your mental capacity and possibly prolonging or enhancing the quality of your life! Now I just have to think of a new skill or hobby I want to learn...
