hand me down house

February 8th, 2008 at 05:29 pm

For some reason last night I was thinking about how our house is a product of hand me downs...

The kitchen is stocked with hand me down pots, plastic, silverware, and more. The only thing I chose were the knives (anniversary presents for several years running).

The living room we bought the Computers That is it. The bedrooms we bought some bedding, but the rest is hand me down. The bathroom 'stuff' was all gifts for our wedding or hand me downs, with few exceptions. (new shower curtains and holders).

No wonder my house looks odd, it is from a conglomeration of different people!

But on the other hand, we have enough beds dressers and more to stock a full house (and there are more hand me downs availible upon request...family with big garage space)

My home is full of hand me downs as well. Smile Very few things are "new" with the exception of my computer and a few odds and ends of kitchen things. I'm very thankful for the hodgepodge that makes up my home - I can't imagine how much it would have cost to furnish it myself. Not to mention the fact that I wouldn't have any memories to associate with the different items. Smile

Me too. I don't see the point in spending all the money on new stuff. Plus we have some really NICE hand-me-downs.

Beyond the hand-me-downs we have a lot of stuff that we bought when we were kids/teenagers still. A lot of our computer stuff (monitors/printers) are REALLY old. Most of the sound system in our family room consists of equipment I bought in my teens. Most of dh's theater room is equipment he bought in his teens. (Which is why, when we do buy, we buy quality. I always laugh at the idea you have to spend a lot of money to have nice stuff. We have upgraded little through the years. We have accumulated a lot of nice stuff, but when it lasts 20 years ... It's not a big ongoing expense).
