haven't moved a thing in ages and a paint poll

August 21st, 2008 at 04:03 pm

When I was a kid the house was rearranged semi annually. well there was a decent amount of new apartments as well.

In this house I have done some rearanging usually riht before or after a kid is born.

Right now it has been months since a move was made..and the clutter is piling up. I believe it is time for a change...but I don't have any inspiration....my living room is the most annoying room of my house, but I can't figure out a better way to set it up.

essentially the kitchen side cannot have any furniture on it, opposite that is the big window and back door, killing that wall. the south wall has the cable plug (needed for internet) so it has EVERYTHING tv, computers stereo, ect. the opposite wall has the couch.

I really hate it, but don't know how to change.

Oh and I want to paint it, any color suggestions? it has a brownish/tan plaid couch, some fake wood and black entertainment stand, and an old school desk, oh and brown curtains...(all hand me downs)

Tan, with one accent wall or a trim that includes a nice hunter green.

I like moving stuff around every now and then too. Hmmm... if you had a wireless internet router, you could just plug that into the wall, and then your computer could go somewhere else if you wanted. You can get a wireless router pretty cheap on Ebay or Craigslist probably.

Or maybe just moving the TV/entertainment center to the corner of the room, opposite the kitchen side? I've seen several living rooms set up this way lately, and it's pretty cute.

As for the colors, I'd say anything in the tannish range would work well. My dream living room would be done in very light blue walls, dark brown leather couches & wood trim on walls, and accessorized with hunter green & tan throw pillows, curtains, and maybe an accent wall. Good luck!

I used to own a little gift store and would move the entire store around twice a year so things would appear new & fresh. Instead of moving the heavy fixtures around only to find out everything was not going to fit, my husband came up with the idea of taking a piece of paper and making it a small scale of the room. (1 foot equals 1 inch for example.) Then he cut out smaller peices of paper to represent the fixtures also to scale. I can't tell you how much easier this made things and I could really play around with moving stuff around. Just thought this might help you as well with your furniture arranging.
For paint I agree that you might want to do a neutral color such as tan, gray, or even some subtle greens or blues, only because these will match any other colors you use in your furnitue etc. You can get really cheap paint at your harware or paint store if you look in the mistinted or boo-boo paint section. If you don't see this ask someone because they might no have it out where you can find it. Usually it's $5 a gallon. If you don't see a color you like mix paints together. I painted almost every room in my house this way. - Good Luck!

Would a wireless internet router allow you to move all that stuff to another wall?

Or would it allow you to at least move the computer desk stuff to another location, get a smaller TV stand/area so it doesn't dominate the room?

Also, when I am in a rut, I go to Rate My Space on the HGTV.com web site. There are a lot of good and practical ideas there.

Thanks for the suggestions, I dunno if Ii can, but I will try something.

And since I have no eye for art, any ol tan will do, I aught to be able to find some cheap.

I did see this cute mural, that was just a wavy line for sky and then ground plus some very simple free form trees, wonder if I have the nergy to do that....
