Out of stuff, and getting creative

June 16th, 2009 at 06:15 pm

Since I don't drive, when we are out of stuff, I have to wait till husband can go to the store. And this week with VBS at night, he can't.

So we are out of bread. I have yeast proofing to make some right now.

We are out of grapes and bananas, and other fruits, so we have been eating frozen quite a bit, plus digging out the last of anything hidden in the cupboard.

I am actually glad we have to use up our stuff. It is cheaper, and makes me think, rather than grab the first easy item. Course it helps that our VBS offers dinner so I don't have to do that meal!

for a while i couldn't get to the markets on the weekends, and i refused to buy fruit from the supermarket as it was just yuck. so we ate tinned fruit for month or two. i much prefer fresh fruit, but if life gets in the way, it's handy to have a few cans of peaches and pears in the cupboard. any possibility of planting a garden, even small? Get the tomatoes going, maybe a bell pepper plant. They are do'able in containers. We have a ~ 30 x 40 yard (small) but huge number of foods (small fruit trees, grapes, etc.). You can do it!

Unfortunately I am not so great at growing things, but times like this remind me to try again!

We do have black berries, through no fault of my own, and so we get a bit of fresh fruit cheap,

plus some carrots were planted, but they are not doing well.
