Our Frugality is hurting the kids education!

July 25th, 2009 at 08:26 pm

You see when asked what someone would pay to finance a couch for a year, my son couldn't wrap his number crunching head around the problem. He didn't know what financing was!

He also apparently doesn't know how to capitalize properly, nor what a colon is.

But he does know enough to pass his test in the 97th percentile, so I am happy. (though a conversation or two is in his future regarding capital letters and colons!)

Knowing your family only from this blog, I understand the truth is that your kid is way ahead of the curve. Anything he doesn't know about capital letters, colons, and financing he will learn and be able to apply tomorrow or as soon as he wants to .

that's one thing that is very freeing once you finish school - you realise you can learn whatever you want. of course it's good to start a bank of knowledge while young, because you never know what you need to know later on. but that's one thing that pissed me off about school - they teach you things blindly because 'that's what you have to learn' with no flexibility.

Joan, thanks for the vote of confidence, I am pretty sure he will get it right quick Smile.

Whitestripe, that is one reason we homeschool..while there are some things he will have to learn (like capitalization) for the most part we let him follow his interests
