Heard the job was filled, we didn't get it.

Not that unemployment is running out anytime soon. The govt is doing it's darnedest to make sure we never have to work again. I figure eventually the magic money printing machine will break. I just hope it isn't due to bloodshed.

Anyway.

In light of that, I figure we have to adjust the budget. Right now roughly 2K comes in, and roughly 2K goes out. Compared to the average American that is fine. But I would prefer to see the savings going up.

Just haven't figured out where to make the change yet.

Though we did turn the air off for over 24 hours. Right now the house is pretty comfortable, I doubt that will last.

I really think we are at our comfort limit for reducing bills. Not that I can't see ways to reduce, I know many of our expenses are luxury (chocolate, and hot water to name my two favorites). I just really am not interested in reducing them right now.

So I really think we need to find some alternate sources of income. I just dunno where, I have no talents myself. And the perfectionist in me wont sell anything done with my less than perfect skills.

I know you already probably have your hands full with your passel of little ones, but could you possibly handle one more? Maybe a 3 or 4 year old which you could also do pre-school activities?

Ouch. I'm very sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what to do here because I'm about to be in the same boat myself. The job market really is tough out there.

I'm sorry the job didn't work out. I know you are busy with the children, but could you do surveys or focus groups as a way to pick up a little more a month?

I am not fond of watching other peoples kids...partly because I am a loner, and 5 kids plus one husband is more than enough social contact for me. I am currently ignoring the family for some much needed rest. I don't think that would be fair to someone else's kid.

I would be willing to try surveys or focus groups, but I fail to meet average expectations...I don't buy enough stuff...my opinion of air freshener for instance is not helpful..which I think is why I stopped getting surveys from pinecone. I never qualified. didn't buy enough stuff.

Will keep thinking though

Sewing or mending. Ironing. Cleaning other peoples homes. Shopping for others. Baking for others. Lawn mowing. Window washing. What skills does your husband have that he could offer for pay? Also think bartering.

I had the same problem with surveys. I don't buy enough and I'm not very complimentary on most of the junk they wanted me to evaluate. Some of my comments on the air scent things were you want $5 a month - that's $60 a year for air freshener - I don't think so. Didn't get to many offers after that.

although you are a perfectionist, you are very proud of your fudge and cookies and other delicious things you bake (which make my mouth water just READING about them!)...why not start with that? Make a few more when you bake for your family and see if you have a market for them around... just a thought!

Sorry to hear about the job. I have also been considering what I can do to make money to help us.
Your cousin is doing mail order goodies, not sure of health or insurance laws tho. Ebay didn't work for me very well, or at least I haven't found what is the "right" item that people will love and keep needing.

Try a temporary service. After I lost a job in 1993, I worked for awhile with Express Temporary Service. I didn't have any real specialized skills except word processing which they tested me on. They had me do some jobs which were like helping with a backlog of filing, etc. I don't know if Express is still in business, but the key is to go to one that doesn't charge a fee to get a job. Express really helped me out a lot at a time when I was literally down to nothing.

One more suggestion for you, Princess. If you go to the website Clark Howard dot com and search for "work from home" (actually he has it listed at the top of the page under popular searches) you will see a link to a story where he gave a list of legit work-at-home opportunities. Hope this helps!
